I grew up in Lafayette, Indiana where I received a Bachelor’s in Chemistry from Purdue University. After graduating, I avoided chemistry labs as much as possible by becoming an Air Force Officer, sheriff’s deputy, HR manager, and managing multiple fitness studios. As a Personnel Officer in the United States Air Force, I was responsible for the weight and fitness testing and compliance of a 500 person squadron. As a sheriff’s deputy, I was selected as a self-defense instructor for the department, and as an HR professional, I created motivational and educational opportunities focused on healthy lifestyles for employees in addition to all the other stuff I was supposed to be doing for these jobs.
After all that, I realized I should actually pursue a career in fitness. I received my first CrossFit Certificate and American College of Sports Medicine Personal Training Certification in 2012 after moving to Charlottesville, Va before eventually becoming a Level II CrossFit Instructor and an ACSM certified Exercise Physiologist a few years later. In 2015 I completed my 200hr Yoga Alliance teacher training and then graduated from the University of Virginia with a Master’s in Exercise Physiology in 2016. For the past decade, I’ve made it my personal and professional mission to partner with entrepreneurs to build healthy communities in places like Birmingham, Al, Myrtle Beach, SC; Charlottesville, and the Shenandoah Valley, and even around the world by sourcing and supplying fitness instructors to the Departments of Defense and Veteran Affairs. My professional goals now have me spending less time in the gym, so I’m thankful to be part of a community like Phoenix.
