Uma White

I have lived in many places, but have always considered the Blue Ridge Mountains my home. After earning my BFA from Virginia Commonwealth University, I enjoyed living in Richmond and starting a family. In 2008, we wanted a little more space and headed for the hills. I have loved settling in Staunton and raising my two children in this community.

I am an herbalist and have been working in the Natural Health field for many years. My interest in herbs and plants led me to study in Charlottesville at Sacred plant traditions in their Herbal Foundations class. After earning a CNHP (Certified Natural Health Professional) from Trinity School of Natural Health, I began my clinical Herbalist Training with Green Comfort School of Herbal Medicine. I am currently working on my own herbal practice while earning hours to become a registered herbalist with the American Herbalist Guild. One of my favorite modalities is flower essences, a plant-energy based practice. I have also collaborated with other holistic health practitioners in our area to create a Community Wellness Day; a free event to make holistic health practices available to everyone.
My teaching experience has been lifelong. I have taught swimming, music, art, and herbal remedy making, I earned my RYT in July 2020 and am very excited to teach yoga at Phoenix. Yoga, to me, is a spiritual-energy practice. The physical aspects reinforce my ability to attune myself to the pulse of life and my environment. It has helped me keep my balance through many transitions and has become the activity I look forward to every day. My morning meditation and pranayama has made the most dramatic changes to my entire well-being. Teaching yoga allows me an opportunity to share in this experience with my community.
